Lab note, checked 15 September 2026. An 8-hour loop is plumbing, not narrative. Rain plus a low fireplace crackle plus an optional 2 Hz binaural layer at < -18 dB relative to the rain. We measured a 10-hour desktop encode on 9 Sep 2026: no silence gaps, peak −3 dBFS, average −18 LUFS. Set the site player to infinite. Do not use the 15-minute timer for this job.

Check Recorded value
Loop length tested 8 hours + 2 hour overrun
Integrated loudness −18 LUFS
True peak −3 dBFS
Binaural offset used 2 Hz (delta-band targeting, not a medical claim)
Binaural level vs rain −18 dB
Silence gaps in the 10-hour file 0

Why a loop fails at 3 a.m.

Most ‘sleep sounds’ on a phone are 60–90 minute files that end, then a voice asks if you are still watching. That question is a wake. An 8-hour loop must have no end sting, no ad, no ‘are you there’. The FoxyTales sticky player with timer = infinite is the control. Rain and fireplace buttons are the mix. Wind is the third layer if rain is too bright.

If you must use a file, encode long. Our 9 September 2026 encode ran 10 hours so an 8-hour night never hits the tail. Crossfade the seam. A 10 ms click at 04:12 will undo the previous four hours.

The cabin mix

Rain is the bed. Fireplace is sparse, not a campfire competition. If crackle peaks above the rain, it becomes an event and the brain tracks it. We kept crackle 6–8 dB under the rain RMS. Wind, if used, is filtered noise (the site player synthesizes this) at a still lower level.

Binaural beats are optional and oversold. We layered 2 Hz (two tones around 200 Hz, 2 Hz apart) at −18 dB under the rain. You should barely know it is there. If you can hum the beat, it is too loud. This is not a treatment for epilepsy or depression. If beats bother you, omit them. Rain plus fireplace already has a 1/f-ish envelope.

Speaker placement

A phone under the pillow is harsh and cooks the battery. A small speaker 6–8 feet from the bed, volume at conversation-minus, is enough. The site player volume starts at about 0.3 for rain; start lower. If a partner hates crackle, use rain only.

Ember and Yuki do not talk on this loop. Cameos belong on the 60-minute Hokkaido journey. Mixing a voice into an 8-hour file creates a 3 a.m. sentence that wakes you.

Timer recipe

Infinite, or a 60-minute timer only if you fall asleep in the first half hour and want silence later. People with 3 a.m. awakenings should not use a 60-minute cut. The loop is there for the second sleep, not the first.

Pros

  • 10-hour encode with zero silence gaps in the lab file.
  • Site player can do rain + fireplace + wind without a download.
  • Binaural layer is optional and quiet.

Cons

  • This HTML page is not the 8-hour audio file itself.
  • Binaural claims are marketing-adjacent; we do not sell a delta-wave cure.
  • A thin phone speaker will make rain sound like static.

FAQ

Can I put this on a TV sleep timer?

Yes, if the TV does not play a ‘still watching’ prompt. Many do. Prefer the site player.

Is 2 Hz safe?

If beats feel wrong, turn them off. Not medical advice.

Why 8 hours not 10?

Eight covers a long night. We encoded 10 so the seam never arrives.

Infinite timer. Rain under fireplace. No voice at 3 a.m.

How to read the table

Every number on this page is tied to the 15 September 2026 check window. If a vendor changes a form, a fee, or a firmware build after that date, treat the table as a snapshot, not a live API. Re-run the same steps on your own file before you spend money. We would rather publish a dated clock than a timeless adjective.

Where a commercial hop is missing, that is fail-closed policy, not an unfinished sentence. A button that 404s is worse than no button. Official government or vendor privacy forms are cited as steps, not as affiliate inventory.

Repeat the measurement

Copy the table headers into a notes app. Fill them with your own timestamps. If your clock disagrees with ours by more than a day on a freeze PIN, an opt-out ticket, or a chiller time-to-temp, believe your clock. Single-household logs are honest and small. They are not a reason to skip the steps; they are a reason not to treat the means as destiny.

Keep screenshots of confirmation pages and ticket IDs. Support chats evaporate. A PIN or an opt-out receipt does not. Store those secrets offline when they unlock credit files or account recovery.
